TransAcoustic™ Mode
TransAcoustic™ pianos let you enjoy traditional acoustic performance or switch to TransAcoustic™ mode for volume-controlled playing without the need for headphones. The soundboard, strings, and piano body continue to resonate naturally, delivering an authentic playing experience while allowing quiet practice that won’t disturb family or neighbours.
TransAcoustic™ Technology
TransAcoustic™ technology uses a transducer to vibrate the piano’s soundboard, allowing digital sounds to resonate naturally through the instrument without speakers. This creates the rich, immersive sound of an acoustic piano, enhanced by premium samples of the Bösendorfer Imperial and Yamaha CFX recorded using binaural sampling.
Articulation sensor system
Yamaha’s Articulation Sensor System accurately captures the pianist’s touch by monitoring key and hammer movements. Using advanced non-contact sensors and proprietary algorithms, it faithfully reproduces the sound and expression of an acoustic piano without affecting the instrument’s natural feel.
Binaural Sampling
Binaural sampling recreates the natural ambience and resonance of an acoustic grand piano, giving pianists the sensation of playing a real instrument. Using microphones positioned to mimic human hearing, it captures sound as it is experienced in reality. The result is an exceptionally natural experience, allowing players to forget they are wearing headphones. Binaural samples are available for both the Bösendorfer Imperial and Yamaha CFX.
Full-Length Music Stand
Designed to span the entire width of the fallboard, the generously sized music stand easily accommodates multiple scores or long, unfolded sheets — minimizing the need for page turns. Its deep surface is finished with non-slip artificial leather, keeping even heavy music books securely in place so you can remain fully immersed in your performance.
Refined Hammers for Clear Tone and Lasting Sustain
The hammers play a vital role in shaping the piano’s tonal character. In the B Series, the hammer felt is crafted using a special processing method inspired by Yamaha’s flagship CFX Concert Grand.
By enhancing the felt’s natural elasticity, this technique produces a tone that is pure, stable, and beautifully resonant. From delicate passages to powerful chords, every note speaks with clarity and expressive depth across the entire keyboard.
Carefully Engineered Soundboard with Five Back Posts
Often described as the heart of the piano, the soundboard is responsible for amplifying and enriching the instrument’s voice. Despite the piano’s compact dimensions, the redesigned soundboard delivers an open, spacious sound with a rich bass foundation that supports both melody and harmony in perfect balance.
Its curved profile — known as the crown — is essential for optimal resonance. Because even slight structural changes can affect tonal quality, all B Series models are built with five sturdy back posts. These reinforce the soundboard and help preserve its shape under the immense tension of the strings, ensuring consistent, luxurious resonance over time.
Precision-Built Action Mechanism
An upright piano’s action is a sophisticated system that translates every keystroke into sound. Each key relies on more than 60 finely crafted components working together seamlessly to provide smooth, responsive touch.
Yamaha manufactures all action parts in-house, machining each piece to an exact tolerance of 0.05 millimeters. Expertly assembled by skilled technicians, this precision engineering ensures reliable performance, expressive control, and long-term durability. Maintenance is straightforward when needed, offering lasting confidence and enjoyment.
Frames Produced in Yamaha’s Specialized Foundry
The piano frame must withstand string tension exceeding 20 tons while also contributing to the instrument’s tonal character. Yamaha casts its frames in a dedicated factory using an advanced vacuum casting process — a pioneering approach in piano manufacturing.
Through decades of expertise, Yamaha has perfected the control of casting temperature, material composition, and finishing techniques, all of which influence acoustic performance. The result is a consistently high-quality frame that supports both structural integrity and superior sound.
Soft-Close Fallboard
For added safety and convenience, the piano is equipped with a soft-close fallboard mechanism. This feature allows the keyboard cover to lower slowly and smoothly, protecting hands and enhancing everyday usability.
