The Yamaha YC61 has been designed for gigging keyboardist players, with a primary focus on electronic organ reproduction and a wide range of acoustic piano, electric piano, keyboard and synthesizer sounds. With most functions tweakable in real time with a dedicated knob or switch and including a full set of 9 drawbars, the YC61 provides a seriously good sound in a lightweight package.
The keyboard of the YC61 is a 61 key, waterfall type action specifically designed to replicate the feel and response of a vintage hammond organ, with separate triggers near the top of the action for the organ sounds and a velocity sensitive trigger at the bottom for non-organ sounds.
The organ sounds are produced using Yamaha’s proprietary VCM technology (virtual circuit modelling) which digitally models the individual components of a vintage organ to produce an authentic overall sound that is thick and warm and highly tweakable. The VCM rotary speaker emulations are also exceptionally good and, again, very easy to tweak and customise.
The organ section is perfectly complemented by a set of Yamaha’s finest electric and acoustic pianos and a synthesizer section.
A range of effects, both voice-specific and global, add a depth of realism to the sound and can be controlled directly from the front of the keyboard.
At 7.1kg and only 90cm, the YC61 is a dream for musicians looking for an easy-to-carry, high-quality instrument to take on the road.
